It's a weird world, this researching for a law professor. Of course, I really like my prof, and respect him. I even admire the work he has done and the stuff I am reading/researching isn't horrible either.
But being not quite student/not quite colleague is a weird thing. Do we address each other by title/last name, as in class? Do we address each other by first names, as in a normal job? Do we have lunch together sometimes? Do we maintain decorum or can I come into his office with my shoes off?
So far, it is still somewhat student-prof, but he has addressed me by my given name. I can't quite get the courage to reciprocate yet. We have never had lunch together, but I do walk into his office in my bare feet. The halls are full of students bar prepping, and it seems odd to hear the sounds of them being goofy and sighing and listening to music at the same time that my prof is listening to jazz and eating pears.
Stranded between two worlds...

I wouldn't have a clue as to the standard operating procedure for this! Good luck, though.
Do you enjoy the research, though? (As in, enough to recommend looking into such a position to another law student.)
